How long since your last limerick?

First I posted this as a comment but have decided to put it up front as well. Some fun limericks have started coming in and I hope to see more soon. Keep it up!

In case it has been a while since you majored in limericks in school, the simple formula calls for five lines of anapestic meter with three beats in lines one, two, and five and two beats in lines three and four. The first, second, and fifth lines end in the same rhyme and the third and fourth lines have their own rhyme.

da da DA da da DA da da DA

da da DA da da DA da da DA

da da DA da da DA

da da DA da da DA

da da DA da da DA da da DA

Few limericks work out with a perfect meter throughout but the idea is to try. A limerick doesn’t have to be humorous but the majority of them turn ot that way.

I’m giving you an example written by Mac, a fifth grader in Nancy Raider’s class a few years ago.

There once was a girl named Rose,
She had a gigantic nose.
Her ear was shaped weird,
She had a green beard,
But those were the least of her woes.

See?

Now, let the limericks begin!
