Sounds of the sea

David on rock 5

Hi everyone,

I wonder how many writers and artists have taken their inspiration from the sea. We can all think of famous quotes, books, wonderful paintings, photographs . . .

Waves washing onto the sand speak to us in many voices, from the gentle shhhh-shhhh of water at peace to the tantrums of a giant disturbed. I’ve started more than one book near the sea. The stories are here. The poems can almost write themselves. One has only to hear with more than the ears.

  1. One of the best sounds in the world to me is the lapping sound as our sailboat on Grand Lake cuts through water when the wind is perfect and the sails are set. We named her Wrinkle in Time because time stands still when we’re on board.
