And so another week begins. For me there will be several variations to the normal routine. Today is the much anticipated golf tournament at Highland Springs to raise money for our Springfield chapter of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Hi, Dolly. Thanks for coming by. I’m part of the volunteer group that will assist for a couple of hours this morning and again in the afternoon.
Wednesday night is the kickoff dinner for the annual Children’s Literature Festival of the Ozarks. This year’s authors and illustrators will meet with the festival organizers. Thursday we’ll be with the kids in groups that rotate every hour. We’ll each see four groups. That night all the authors and illustrators will be seated at tables around a large room to greet visitors and sign books. Toward the end of the event there will be some entertainment with a couple of authors reading from their work and Byron Biggers Band performing a few of my poems set to music.
Friday evening we’ll attend a high school reunion dinner at the Doubletree Hotel and make fun of all the old folks who graduated in 1955.
In between the events of the week I need to finish reviewing the final script for my book (co-written with Tim Rasinski) for Shell titled RHYMES FOR THE TIMES: LITERACY STRATEGIES THROUGH SOCIAL STUDIES. That and get on with preparations for next month’s talks at Missouri Early Learning Conference.
Have a good week everyone.
