Yesterday Jay Bender, an old Lambda Chi friend from Drury days, sent out a list of quotations credited to Winston Churchill. I don’t know if they all came from Churchill originally but whether he said them first or someone else did I enjoyed them.
“You will never reach your destination if you stop to throw stones at every dog that barks.”
“The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
But my favorite, and one I think applies to writers, artists, and creative people in general, is this:
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
When any one of us is fortunate enough to get something in print, we should all celebrate the success. It means that writer recognized an opportunity where others saw only a problem and gave up. My thanks to Mr. Churchill and to Jay Bender.
