What do you mean there’s nothing to do when you’re cooped up? Yesterday I gave Alexa a good workout.
By request she entertained us with Hawaiian War Chant by Spike Jones and His City Slickers (“As the sun slips away from the shore and our ship sinks slowly in the west…”); The Roller Skate Key (“I’ve got a brand new pair of roller skates, you’ve got a brand new key…”); Mairzy Doats (“Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey, A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you?”); The Purple People Eater (“It was a one-eye, one-horned flyin’ purple people eater and it sure looked strange to me…”); Playmate (“Playmate, come out and play with me, slide down my cellar door, climb up my apple tree…”); and some other somewhat unique lyrics from back in the day. Recognize any of them? Do these make you think of others?
Has anyone ever put together a playlist of those wacky tunes from the past? Someone should. It would give music historians of the future something to worry about.
