Leaving Oregon

Hi everyone,

We returned home yesterday from a seven day trip to see Jeff and Jennifer in Portland and Cannon Beach, Oregon. I’ll tell you about all our wonderful visit later but this morning I’m sad for all the people in Oregon, California, Colorado, and everywhere else who are being devastated by the unending, high-wind driven fires.

At J&J’s house at Cannon Beach, they have a majestic view of the valley from their back deck. On Tuesday we could already see smoke drifting in over the hills.

Here’s the same view two days later as we were leaving for Portland. And here is all we could see of downtown Portland yesterday as we headed to the airport. By then Portland had been judged the worst air quality of any major city in the world. Fires have already caused 500,000 people to evacuate or be prepared to, and small hamlets have been entirely wiped out. So very sad.

  1. Been there and done that! Not fun, for sure! Hope that Jeff and Jennifer are safe at their house, and the smoke doesn’t bother them too much. It’s a scary, scary time with all of these wildfires!

    • As you and Danny well know, Su. I’m glad you were spared from the fire veering any closer to your place in Colorado. What a grim time for so many. Hugs

  2. Seeing these photos it could be any foggy day at an Oregon beach–but smoke! Can’t wait for Oregon rain. Sorry your time here was not what it usually is. We even have a curfew in our area from 10pm to 6am due to the evacuations. That has never happened. A lot of “firsts” this year for us.

    • Marie, I’m so sorry for what you and all Oregon folks (Oregonians?) are dealing with. My toes are crossed for rain soon and plenty of it. I’d cross my fingers but they’re in use already, hoping for a huge improvement in your air quality ASAP.
