If you can make a blue,
deeper than the skies,
and put it in a bowl
wider than your house.
If you can make a blue,
truer than your eyes,
sunk betwee between the stones,
grayer than a mouse,
I will come and swim
(this is no surprise)
and watch the morning sun
rising in your eyes.
As I struggle to find comfort, I’m reminded of a line in Jack Gilbert’s poem, “A Brief for the Defense:” We must have the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless furnace of this world. To make injustice the only measure of our attention is to praise the Devil.

And of course you are my taker, Jane. I love “…watch morning sun/rising in your eyes.” Beautifully done. Thank you. XO
Rain, rain go away
David wants outside to play!
Lake is calling, deck is too
Staring out just makes him blue!
Ha! Who knows David through and through? Su do.
Lol!! Just landed in Seattle. Heading to the ship! Su is not blue!!
I’m glad you made it and are about to head out. Sweet sailing!
As soon as Sandy and David enter the pool, there will be a poem in it
Water Poems Inspired by Sandy. Good idea, dear Jeanne!

A remarkable poet, Gloria. I hadn’t read him before. Thank you for the introduction.
I see I misunderstood your invitation for a poem. I was responding to the tragic killing of children in Uvalde, Texas.
That’s what I thought you might be doing, Gloria. Certainly no harm done there. Thank you again. I hope you’ll join us again.
