Virginia Lowe joins Poetry from Daily Life Free Video Library

Hi everyone,

Today I introduce VIRGINIA LOWE with the 60th artist recording on Poetry from Daily Life Free Video Library. Here’s the link to her column, which appeared in the newspaper series on March 10, 2025. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5Bh69YvoV0&t=9s

Virginia lives in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Lowe says she has always written, from editing newsletters and maintaining a monthly blog, to her Favorite genre, writing poetry. Her husband, John, is a poet too. A Favorite activity has been teaching a U3A (University of the Third Age) creative writing group. One unique fact about Virginia is that she studied her two children’s development and responses to books from infancy to early adolescence. Her research, including 5,500 pages of notes, became part of her studies for a Ph.D.

My thanks to Virginia for becoming a permanent part of Poetry from Daily Life Free Video Library. For those who would like to see the final collection, here is the link. It has been a long journey to reach this announcement today. Thanks to all who have taken the trip with me. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5wGqp5vbw2K0N7cFcGwN5w The library has been visited more than 2,200 times, including more than 120 views of my introduction that were lost during the posting of these final eight. The goal is to share the library wherever there is an interest in poetry and the people who write the poems or use them in their lives.

Virginia Lowe featured on Poetry from Daily Life

Hi everyone,

Today and this week I’m happy to welcome VIRGIINIA LOWE, from Melbourne, Australia, as my guest on Poetry from Daily Life.

Here is the link to Virginia’s column. https://www.news-leader.com/story/entertainment/2025/03/30/poetry-from-daily-life-learning-from-humpty-dumpty-jack-and-jill/82681972007/

We’ve enjoyed more than sixty guests since we started the column in November 2023, and this is the first one that focused on a study of how poetry in the lives of the very young plays an important role in their literacy development. Thank you for reading what Virginia has to say and sharing with others. Thank you, Virginia!

Virginia Lowe coming to Poetry from Daily Life

Hi everyone,

My guest this week on Poetry from Daily Life comes from down under. VIRGINIA LOWE is an Australian poet and what she has to say about the importance of introducing poetry to children at the earliest age dovetails nicely with what CHARLES GHIGNA talked about last week. Virginia worked with her own two children from birth through early adolescence and used her observations and more than 5,000 pages of notes as part of her Ph.D. work. I’m delighted to have her input. Thank you, Virginia.

Virginia will appear in Springfield News-Leader tomorrow (Saturday) and again in Sunday’s e-edition. I’ll post that link late Sunday morning so you can enjoy what Virginia has chosen to share with us and then pass it along to others will will also want to read her column.

Two new guest columnists added

Hi eveyone,

I am happy to announce that you will soon be meeting two more poets from other lands. VIRGINIA LOWE is a specialist on the importance of using poetry with children from infancy on. She lives in Australia.

Dr. Lowe has lectured at universities (English and Children’s Literature); been a children’s librarian in public libraries; school librarian; and for the last twenty years has run a manuscript assessment agency Create a Kid’s Book.

BRIAN MOSES lives in the U.K, where he taught for 13 years and has been a professional writer in schools, libraries, theatres and festivals since 1988. He has given over 3000 performances of his poetry and percussion show and run countless writing workshops. Over 1 million of his poetry books and anthologies have been sold by Macmillan Children’s Books. He was commissioned by CBBC to write a poem for the Queen’s 80th birthday which was then performed live on air. He was invited by Prince Charles to speak at Prince’s Summer School for teachers, at Cambridge University in 2007. Brian has published 220 books.

I already have Virginia’s essay in hand and look forward to seeing what Brian will send along soon. Stand by.
